Are you planning to temporarily work outside the union AKA taking a temp management or occ health job?
For example: You are in a permanent RN union position and a temporary management position comes up.
Please read and be aware of the following!! This is regarding any position where you stop paying union dues because you are OUTSIDE the bargaining unit.
Article 10.11 in our Hospital Provincial Collective Agreement states:
Less than 3 months: no loss of seniority, service or benefits
3 months to 1 year: retain, but not accumulate seniority. Once you return to the bargaining unit your seniority will start to accumulate again from what it was the date of transfer.
Over a year: You lose all seniority. This can be avoided through a memorandum of understanding between the hospital and union but must be signed off by both parties in order to maintain seniority. Sometimes the circumstances will not allow an extension.
Once you are done your transfer and return to the bargaining unit you must remain in the bargaining unit for at least 5 months before transferring out again otherwise you will lose all seniority.
This is all written down under article 10.11. The parental leave it is referring to is if you are covering a mat leave or parental leave for a manager outside the bargaining unit.
