You are entitled to vote for your Local representatives, including your Local Coordinator, Bargaining Unit President, unit representatives and those on committees, such as Health and Safety, Professional Development and Labour-Management.

Members are welcome–and encouraged–to let their name stand for any Local or Bargaining Unit position. Your input is needed!

2026 Local Elections

Three-Year Term — January 1st, 2027 until December 31st, 2029

This year we will be holding elections for various positions on our Local/Bargaining Unit team. Check here often as we will post election updates, including our call for nominations, candidate/voting information and election results.

Key Dates:

  • October 6, 2026 – Nominations Close
  • October 26, 2026 – Voting Opens
  • October 30, 2026 – Voting Closes

All Local 84 and Bargaining Unit positions are up for election for the 2027–2029 term. Members are encouraged to consider running for a leadership position and helping shape the future of our Local.

The following list outlines the position, number of spots, brief description of what will be expected of you, how much each position pays, pre-requisites, and complementary positions. The Guide to Leadership Accountabilities and Competencies - For Leaders at the Bargaining Unit and Local Levels also outlines leadership accountabilities and competencies for each role.

You can run for as many positions as you would like but we would like you to recognize that some of the positions do have a lot of work and responsibility. There will be paid education offered through online learning before you start in a new role. We have also posted the members that are currently in the positions so you can reach out to them for further information if you are interested in the role.

Local 84 Positions (all Bargaining Units can vote):

  • Local Coordinator (1)
    • Currently occupied by Kelly Ganon
    • Local coordinator chairs 2 meetings a year with the 9 bargaining units under Local 084. Concerns are compiled and brought forth at Local Coordinator meetings that can be located throughout Region 2. Governing support is also offered to all bargaining units. This is a very labour-intensive position requiring travel and hotel stays.
    • Pay: 45 - 7.5 hour shifts a year
    • Pre-requisites: must have held at least one term on the bargaining unit leadership team or at least one term of a position on the Local Executive team.
  • Treasurer/Secretary (1)
    • Currently occupied by Lynn Ogilvie
    • Co-chairs the exec meetings and keeps minutes. Keep tracks of receipts and expenses when preparing budget and beginning of year and submitting expenses at the end of the year. Keeps meticulous track of spending through excel spreadsheet. Very labour-intensive, you are treasurer for all 9 of the bargaining units.
    • Pay: 15 – 7.5 hour shifts a year
    • Pre-requisites: must have held at least one term on the bargaining unit leadership team or at least one term of a position on the Local Executive team.
  • Human Rights and Equity Rep (1)
    • New position

Queensway Carleton Hospital Bargaining Unit-Specific Positions:

  • Bargaining Unit President (BUP) (1)
    • Currently occupied by Merissa Pyke
    • Work closely with all of the other committee members to ensure that they are aware of what is happening in the bargaining unit. Chair of Labour Management Meetings with hospital directors. Active on all the committees, monitors grievances, attends bargaining, attends conferences. Regularly meets with hospital labour relations. Very labour intensive.
    • Pay: 55 – 7.5 hour shifts a year
    • Pre-requisites: must have held a bargaining unit position for one year
  • Vice BUP (1)
    • Currently occupied by Sherri Allison
    • Assists on committees that are vacant or need extra help. Assists in attending HR meetings with the hospital. Works closely with BUP.
    • Pay: 21 – 7.5 hour shifts a year
    • Complementary position: Hospital Association Committee, Return to Work/Accommodation Rep
  • Grievance Rep (2)
    • Currently occupied by Laura Gale and Ganen Mahendiran
    • Assists members with grievance enquiries and filling out the fact sheet. Meets with ONA labour relations officer to discuss grievances. Attends Step 2 grievance meetings with the hospital, communicates with hospital labour relations regarding outstanding information.
    • Pay: up to 4 hours a month
    • Complementary position: Negotiations Committee
  • Negotiations Committee (3 at least 1 needs to be PT)
    • Currently occupied by Stephanie Gillis, Andrea Elliot, and Ganen Mahendiran
    • Every 2 years when our Local Agreement expires, the negotiation team meets with the hospital to negotiate a new collective agreement. The time commitment for this is very short and it is beneficial to be in a different position within the union as well.
    • Pay: Time paid by the hospital
    • Complementary position: Grievance Rep
  • Return to work/Accommodation Rep (1 for RTW and 1 for Accommodations)
    • Currently occupied by Lynn Ogilvie
    • Works closely with member, ONA labour relations officer, as well as Occ Health and hospital labour relations. Attends meetings where employees can’t return to work after an injury and ensure their rights are upheld. Attends accommodation meetings with the hospital and takes meticulous notes to communicate to the ONA labour relations officer.
    • Pay: up to 4 hours a month, hospital pays for time at meetings
    • Complementary position: Vice BUP
  • Joint Occ Health and Safety Rep (2 at QCH, 2 at Park Place)
    • Currently occupied by Lily Wong, Laura Gale (QCH), and Julissa Edgar (Park Place)
    • Promoting health and safety at work. Certification provided by the hospital. Attend regular scheduled meetings with the Occ Health and Safety committee with members throughout the hospital to recognize workplace hazards and brainstorm solutions. Conduct workplace inspections.
    • Pay: Meetings, certifications and inspections paid by hospital
  • Professional Development Committee Rep (2)
    • This committee is currently vacant. What I have envisioned is for these reps to meet with the hospital regarding professional development opportunities through the hospital, (CPR certifications, in-services). This might be good for ONA members that are educators. Also inform members of scholarships or paid learning opportunities through the hospital.
  • Workload and Professional Responsibility Rep (1)
    • Currently occupied by Areta Vincent
    • Collect workload forms from members and forward them to ONA central intake. Follow up with members regarding their workloads. Monthly meetings with BUP and ONA central workload rep. Updates excel spreadsheet to data track. Assists in collecting workload responses from managers.
    • Pay: up to 4 hours a month
    • Complementary position: Hospital-Association Committee
  • Hospital-Association Committee Rep (2)
    • Currently occupied by Sherri Allison and Julissa Edgar
    • Attend monthly meetings with human resources and hospital directors. Address workload concerns as well as other concerns raised by members in the hospital. Ask for information on policy or workplace changes especially regarding information that affects our members.
    • Pay: 1 hour paid by hospital for monthly meeting
    • Complementary position: Vice BUP, workload and professional responsibility rep.
  • Human Rights and Equity Rep (1)
    • This is a new position promoting equity and diversity. In this position you will meet with members to discuss concerns raised regarding discrimination or bullying. You will also attend hospital meetings with their human rights committee and inform the BUP of any concerns.
    • Pay: TBD, most likely, up to 4 hours per month
    • Complementary position: Political Action Rep
  • Political Action Rep (1)
    • Currently occupied by Laura Gale
    • Work with regional and local action committees. Spread awareness and help with organization so members can attend rallies. Can meet with local MPPs if comfortable and after speaking with ONA Central Rep.
    • Complementary position: Human Rights and Equity Rep
  • Unit Rep (1) per unit
    • A4, A3, ICU, ED, B2, Endo, ACE, OR, Day Stay, PACU, AmbCare, Postpartum, SCN, Maternal Clinics, Birth Unit, Inpatient MH, Outpatient MH, D3, D4, C4, Park Place

This fall we will be holding our election a little differently. Understanding how busy you all are and how difficult it can be to attend a polling station we have listened to you and will be holding our election electronically.

To be eligible to vote or run for a position you must be a member with entitlements (bonified), know your ONA ID# and have an up-to-date personal email on file with ONA. We will not accept workplace emails.

To become a bonified member, you will need to email your Bargaining Unit President from your personal email address to have the adobe link sent to you to sign up.

You will receive an email to your personal email address just before the election with directions and voting timeline as well as your PIN # to vote.
